John PilgerJohn Pilger. Source: penguin.com.auDec. 31, 2023 (World News Trust) -- John Pilger, a renowned Australian journalist, writer, scholar, and documentary filmmaker, died on Saturday at the age of 84 in London.

He was best known for his coverage of the Cambodian genocide and his criticism of Western foreign policy. He also campaigned for the release of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange and the rights of Indigenous Australians.

He made over 50 documentaries and wrote a regular column for the New Statesman magazine. He won several awards for his journalism, including Britain's Journalist of the Year Award twice.

He was a visiting professor at Cornell University in New York. He is survived by his partner Yvonne Roberts and two children.
